CT University organised an awareness programme on scientific agriculture for farmers wherein a huge number of farmers from various districts of Punjab participated.
The event had stalls showcasing new farm technologies, subsidiary occupations, and literature put up by different departments of CTU, by Agriculture Department Punjab and other allied concerns including pesticide and fertilizer firms. The farm experts shared tips for scientific farming. The focus remained on technologies aimed at rational use of natural resources and eco-friendly crop production techniques. Models prepared by students were displayed. Besides, queries of the farmers were addressed by the experts.
The special attraction was ‘smart scare crow’ emitting distress calls of birds, light for scaring birds and animals, and generating fire alarm detecting fire in the field. The other technology showcased was ‘water sensing robot’ in which viewers showed keen interest. Dr Baldev Singh Naurth of Department of Agriculture, Punjab was the Chief Guest. He expressed the concern on the need to reduce agricultural cost liabilities, boost profitability as well as the conservation of natural resources. In recognition of his dedicated technology transfer service to the farming community Dr Naurth was honoured with ‘Dr Norman Borlaug Award’. On this occasion, 10 Punjab farmers were honoured with appreciation awards for saying ‘No’ to paddy straw burning.
