Course Overview

B.Sc. or Bachelor of Science (Honours) Agriculture is a professional undergraduate degree programme focused on understanding the agricultural sector that involves the study of agriculture science, crops, soils, agronomy, genetics and plant breeding, plant pathology, entomology, etc. as well as animal husbandry. This course deals with the concepts of agriculture and the uses of modern scientific techniques to improve the overall production and quality of food under the present scenario where global warming, climate change and population outbreak is putting pressure on food availability. Candidates having a flair interest in agriculture and having a research oriented technical expertise with strong rational mind can choose a B.Sc. (Honours) Agriculture course for their graduation.

Career Prospects

Agriculture graduates have ample job opportunities in the government as well as the private sector. Pass-out graduates can also join Private Companies as Officers or Technical Representatives, like in pesticide, fertilizer, seed and agricultural machinery and irrigation systems companies and can also apply for various posts like Agriculture Officer, Scientific Assistant, Laboratory Assistant and other administrative posts in government sector. As well as they can opt for higher studies in the discipline of their choice in order to make a career in research or teaching.

Eligibility Criteria:

10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects and Mathematics/ Biology/ Agriculture as a third science subject from a recognized board and having at least 50% marks. OR Two years Diploma in Agriculture from a recognized institute and having at least 50% marks

Duration:

4 Years (8 Semesters)

Program Objectives

Program Outcomes

After Completion of the programme, the students would be able to:

  • Relate the impact of professional agricultural solutions in context to society and environment so as to demonstrate the knowledge for sustainable development.
  • Devising an ability to engage in critical thinking by analyzing the situation, finding the associated problems and constructing viable solutions for them and to work effectively in a team.
  • Recognizing and examining the relationships between inputs and outputs in agriculture for effective and profitable decision making.
  • Visualizing the relationship between the plant physiology, biochemistry, breeding, protection, soil management, agrometeorology with respect to crop performance, and the post-harvest management and processing of agricultural produce for obtaining maximum profitability.



Ph.D. Programmes


Course Overview

Ph.D. in Zoology is a 3-year doctorate degree in Zoology. As an academic discipline, Zoology involves a study of animals, their structural classifications, and the science of their existence in the environment.

Eligibility Criteria:

Master's degree in relevant stream  with atleast 55% marks from a recognized university followed by clearing an entrance exam and personal interview.(Finalised at the time of Entrance Test)
